

On the morning of October 16, the commencement ceremony for the Cosin Solar Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project was grandly held in the Wutumeiren Solar Park, Golmud City, Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. This marks the official start of construction for the world’s largest single-unit CSP project in terms of capacity.

Yao Haitao, Deputy Secretary of the Haixi Prefectural Committee and Deputy Governor, as well as Secretary of the Party Committee and Commander of the Zhejiang Provincial Assistance Headquarters for Qinghai, attended the commencement ceremony. Zhao Dong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Haixi Prefectural Committee and Party Chief of Golmud City, announced the project's start. Xu Jin, Deputy Secretary of the Golmud Municipal Committee and Mayor, delivered a speech. Xiao Jun, Deputy Secretary of the Golmud Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor, presided over the ceremony. Municipal leaders including A Yingde, Gao Haiyuan, and Wu Qiong were also present. Jin Jianxiang, Chairman and Chief Scientist of Cosen Technology, attended and addressed the ceremony.
Leaders and relevant responsible persons from participating units, such as PowerChina Shandong Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., PowerChina Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited, China Power Engineering Consulting Group Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., and Anhui Energy Engineering Construction Supervision and Consulting Co., Ltd., also attended the ceremony.
This project has been selected as a 2024 concentrated solar power demonstration project in Qinghai Province. It adopts a three-towers-one-turbine design scheme, equipped with a 14-hour molten salt thermal energy storage system, and features a total mirror field area of approximately 3.3 million square meters. Upon completion, the project is expected to generate approximately 960 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, equivalent to saving 263,400 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 720,000 tonnes. Once operational, the project will fully leverage CSP's capabilities in peak shaving, load regulation, frequency regulation, and backup power, significantly enhancing the flexibility of Qinghai's power system and its electricity supply capacity during peak hours. It will also promote the integration of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, playing a significant role in accelerating Qinghai's efforts to establish itself as a national base for the clean energy industry.
As one of the earliest Chinese enterprises dedicated to the R&D and engineering application of tower CSP technology, Cosin Solar has established a comprehensive tower CSP technology system with fully independent intellectual property rights, covering the entire process. The launched Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project is a concentrated embodiment of the company's comprehensive technical capabilities and engineering strength. For this project, Cosin Solar is responsible for key tasks including whole-process project management, overall plant process design (excluding the conventional island), supply of core system equipment, and commissioning and O&M technical guidance. It will also innovatively apply advanced CSP technologies independently developed by the company, such as the multi-mirror field energy collaborative control technology, large-capacity safe and efficient molten salt absorption technology, distributed molten salt energy storage system solutions, and a highly intelligent CSP plant smart operation system. This will further verify and enhance the maturity and leading position of its technological system.
To date, the total installed capacity of CSP projects utilizing Cosin Solar's core technology and system equipment has reached 1,710MW, maintaining its leading position in the industry. Taking the Golmud 350MW project as a new starting point, Cosin Solar will continue to promote the development of CSP technology towards scaling, cost reduction, and intellectualization, further consolidating China's internationally leading position in the CSP field and injecting more "Cosin strength" into building a new power system and serving the national "dual carbon" strategy.
